Sex Therapy

What is Sex Therapy?

People often have misperceptions about what takes place during sex therapy. Sex therapy is a form of talk therapy that involves the therapist working with an individual or a couple in an office setting. Sex therapists frequently treat clients with desire, arousal, performance, and satisfaction issues. They also counsel patients who have experienced sexual trauma or abuse, or who are struggling with gender identity or sexual orientation issues, sexual pain, or sexual compulsions or addiction.

The Sex Therapist

According to the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), certified sex therapists “are mental health professionals, trained to provide in-depth psychotherapy, who have specialized training in treating clients with sexual issues and concerns.” They handle both “simple sexual concerns” and “are prepared to provide comprehensive and extensive psychotherapy over an extended period of time in more complex cases.” Dr. Zeising is a member of AASECT and is currently undergoing specialized training and supervision to obtain an AASECT certification in Sex Therapy.

People are often shy about addressing their sexual concerns. Dr. Zeising helps to create a safe and supportive environment so that you can express your thoughts and feelings in a non-judgmental atmosphere.  As your sex therapist, she provides accurate information about sexuality in an open and non-judgmental manner.  Her goal is to assist people in gaining a deeper understanding of their own sexuality and how it affects their lives and their relationships.  The process of sex therapy can help individuals and couples learn how to communicate their sexual needs and desires to deepen their sexual lives.  With a more fulfilling sex life, you can have a more satisfying quality of life overall.
